Server Web sites   - Help Index

This is the panel where you define all of your web sites. Using the controls on this page you are able to add, change and delete web sites from your web server. Each Website needs to have a WebDomain and a WebFolder.

The red circles on the picture above are described below.
  1. This is the 'WebSites' Tab. Click on this tab at any time to return to this view. This is where you would define all of the web sites you wish to run. The bottom area of the panel contains input boxes that are used to input information about your web sites.

  2. This area describes your WebDomain See Item (5) in this list.

  3. This is the folder path of where the actual web pages are located for the associated web site.

  4. This indicates the status of the web site. The possible values are Active and Stopped. To Start or Stop a Particular web site. Click on the associated entry and then click on the Traffic light (see red circle 8 on the picture above).

  5. The WebDomain area is where you put your domain name, local host, IP address or a Virtual Path. You can specify more than one web site for a domain name. You can use a WebDomain name like "www.mydomain.com" as one web site and a WebDomain "business.mydomain.com" as another and you can do this for as many web site as you wish depending upon your license options. Normally you would not put in a WebDomain as "www.mydomain.com" but you would put in "mydomain.com" as the last entry in the list to it would pick up all traffic not directed to the other web sites. The final step is for you to put in a WebDomain of "*" which would direct all traffic one particular web site or if last in the list would pick up all traffic not directed to any other web site in the list.

  6. The WebFolder area is where you enter the exact folder location of where the web pages reside. This field is not modifiable, you must used the "..." button (see red circle 9 on the picture above) to locate the folder of where it is.

  7. These buttons move your web site entries up or down one entry in the list. This is useful when you have multiple web sites using the same domain name. For example: test.mydomain.com should be before mydomain.com. How this works is, when the browser send the request to get a web page it also sends the domain name that the request is for. The server tries to find the Web Domain name that you entered when defining the web site somewhere in the domain name the browser sent. So for example, you have defined, mydomain.com and test.mydomain.com as two different web sites. Then request for http://test.mydomain.com/help.asp comes in from a user that is browsing your web site. The server would check each entry in the Web Domain list trying to find which one matches the domain name that was passed by the browser. So it would check to see if "mydomain.com" was part of the name "test.mydomain.com" and it would resolve to yes, which is not what you want. So you would need to have "test.mydomain.com" in the list before "mydomain.com".

  8. This button is used to start and stop individual web sites. See Scenarios below

  9. This "..." button helps you locate the exact folder location of where the web pages reside for the web site your defining. See Item 6 in this list.
